A Message from our CEO

It is a pleasure and a privilege to be the CEO at South Community Inc.

It is more important than ever to have an integrated healthcare and mental healthcare delivery system that seeks to coordinate the continuum of services available for the individuals we serve. Many of them also have severe chronic health issues and did not have primary care physicians. We are identifying their mental health, substance abuse and healthcare needs all at South Community.

We believe in the importance of whole person care and by embracing changes and focusing on integration and innovation, have moved South Community Inc. forward in this NEW AGE of an Integrated Delivery System. This integrated delivery system furthers our mission “… committed to improving the quality of life and the behavioral health status of children, adults and families residing in the Greater Miami Valley” and builds on our care coordination expertise. We are working tirelessly to offer effective and efficient quality care to those we serve.

At South Community Inc. in Dayton, Ohio, we are committed to providing effective, evidence-based integrated treatment for individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance abuse disorders.

Patient-centered “whole person” care means we must create a high quality experience at every point of contact, beginning with the search for treatment options, introduction to the agency’s services and progressing through treatment, coordinated care, discharge and after-care.

We strive to meet the needs and expectations of all of the individuals who come in contact with South Community Inc., whether they are patient, family or referral source. Yet, despite our best intentions, it is somewhat difficult to put ourselves in the place of the individuals we are treating and fully understand the recovery process from their perspective. We have a Consumer Advisory Council made up of some of the current individuals we serve to offer input and suggestions regarding our delivery of services. They, along with our staff input, help us strengthen program areas to be more successful and offer feedback for improvement. It is invaluable in helping us develop and refine our programs and services. This is what they are telling us: “One-stop shopping is most helpful where they medical doctor, psychiatrist, pharmacy and lab are all located together. They need job training and actual paying jobs and 34% of our population now have jobs thanks to our Supported Employment Program.

Recent study from the National Center of Children in Poverty found that 1 in 5 children suffer from a diagnosable mental disorder and 2/3 of those young people are not getting the help they need. South Community Inc. has increased our number of services to children, offering specialized treatment in partnership with local school districts to provide treatment at the schools and the Montgomery County Juvenile Courts. Partnerships in the community are very important to us in this effort.

Thank you for choosing South Community Inc.

One in three people will suffer from a mental health or chemical dependency-related problem at some point in their lifetime. Often, there are also co-occurring medical conditions. South Community’s goal is to be there when that person seeks help to treat the whole person. For over 38 years, South Community has been committed to providing a continuum of services to help ensure the medical, emotional, mental and behavioral well being of residents in the greater Miami Valley.

We provide affordable, high quality, outcome based integrated healthcare. We work with our consumers to create personal strategies and treatment services that promote growth, enrichment and recovery. South Community is committed to forging alliances and collaborating with other community partners in an effort to integrate services within the professional community. Our dynamic organizational structure and broad range of capabilities allow us to respond quickly and effectively to the ever changing needs of a diverse and complex society.

Our growth as an organization has been gradual and steady and we continue to find ways to improve our efficiency and effectiveness as a healthcare provider promoting positive health options. Our mission is achieved through the efforts of a skilled interdisciplinary group of professionals who provide hope, help and behavioral health. They work in partnership with referring physicians, employers and community organizations to provide effective, integrated care.

Our school-based mental health programs have expanded to include many area schools. Our professionals also enlist the individuals we serve as partners, empowering them to draw upon their own resources in order to improve their health status. As our clinical staff focus increasingly on “best practices”, the treatment outcomes for our consumers will continue to improve. We invite you to familiarize yourself with our full range of programs and services. Whether you are an individual or family in crisis, a physician seeking help for patients who are experiencing difficulty, a mental health counselor seeking specialized services for a consumer or a company looking for a direct link to an integrated continuum of substance abuse, physical health, mental health services, South Community Inc. stands ready to help. The summer program that South Community has in place is an awesome program that provides a wonderful opportunity for many kids at risk, who otherwise would be left out of a truly adventurous experience. READ MORE >>

I honestly do not know what I would have done without South Community. It has helped me so much in rebuilding my life. I went from living at home with my mother for financial reasons, and also severe depression, to having a place of my own and a job!

Thanks to South Community, I was able to get the therapy I needed. I was also able to obtain a caseworker, Lynn Wynstrep. Lynn helped me get my life back in order. READ MORE >>

Thank you all for a wonderful training year. You guys were a great supportive staff to work with. I felt like I was part of the team here, and I appreciate everyone for helping me with anything I needed throughout the year.

I know that many agencies talk about having a recovery focus, but the staff here truly implements it. I noticed it and my clients noticed it. From the front service desk to the providers in the back, there is an emphasis on client care. READ MORE >>
